Camping at Pictured Rock Area over Labor Day Weekend

The sites are booked and we are GOING! Mark your calendars for an amazing Labor Day weekend filled with hiking, camping, biking, and kayaking!

We will be staying at the Bay Furnace Campground, located 8 miles west of Pictured Rock, right on the Bay! About 6 hour drive from Chicago.

Adjacent to the Campground, the Bay Furnace Day Use site includes a rugged Lake Superior beachfront.

Directions:
From Munising travel west on M-28 aproximately 5 miles to the village of Chrismas. The campground road is located across from the Kewadin Casino. Turn right ( north) and drive to the campground.

At Bay Furnace Campground you can enjoy the scenic view of Lake Superior with its spectacular sunrises, sunsets, and occasional northern light displays. Among many other attractions are the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Alger Underwater Preserve, the boat cruises, Miner`s Castle, and many delightful waterfalls. Bay Furnace Day Use Site offers spectacular views Grand Island National Recreation Area.

SITE AMENITIES:
Each site is equipped with tables and campfire rings with grills. Accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided. A day-use picnic area is also available at the campground, located near the lake shore.

• Charcoal (there is a grill in addition to fire pit)
• Maps & guidance for local area and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:
• A tent & relevant camping equipment
• Bug repellent
• A great attitude & fun spirit
• Rain gear and weather appropriate clothing
• Swim suit
• A bike, boat, and/or hiking shoes
• Food and beverage
• Bring $ to buy a firewood

CARPOOLING:
Safe carpooling encouraged! If you are looking for a ride or have extra spot, please post it in the comments.

 

COST FOR 3 NIGHTS OF CAMPING:
$55 Pine Point members
$60 Non Pine Point members

Payment is due at the time of RSVP. We recommend paying electronically to "mcdzica at gmail.com" via

- Zelle
- Paypal ( send money as "friend" to avoid additional fees)
E-mail for additional payment method.

Please note: A Pine Point Covid waiver is required to participate and we expect everyone to be cautious, even if you have been vaccinated. We follow the CDC's recommendations for social distancing, in addition to any local laws or rules.

A trip letter with detailed agenda and site assignment will be sent out closer to the trip.
