Did you know that Pine Point was founded in 1971?

50 YEARS!!!! YES!!!

Join Pine Point for a celebration of our first 1/2 century.

In true Pine Point style we will be hosting an outdoor event with fun & games, food & drink. All current and former Pine Point members are welcome (and encouraged) to join us.

We will be at the BUNKER HILL picnic area in Caldwell Woods.
The entrance off Caldwell Ave. - a little North of Devon Ave. There are a couple big trees in at the split in the road (see pin on map below).

Look for a white Toyota Prius with a Pine Point flag hanging on it. There is plenty of parking.

Schedule for the day-


• 11:00 Cruise / walk along the North Branch Trail
• 12:00 fun & games (bags, bocce, croquet)
• 1:00 grill will be fired up for burgers & dogs
• 6:00 head home

Provided by Pine Point -
• Water/Pop/Beer/Wine
• Charcoal, grill, and grilling stuff
• Burgers, dogs, salad and dessert
• Please feel free to bring more food for yourself or to share
• Paper plates & plastic ware

What you should bring:


• Blanket or chairs
• Any photos or memorabilia from Pine Point
• A smile!

Cost -


Free with "pre-registration" for any person who was a paid member of Pine Point in the past 50 years. Pre-register by clicking "Attend"
$5 for guest who were never paid members of Pine Point. And this includes a summer 2021 membership.
Please pre-register so we know how much food we need.

Please keep in mind that this is a family event and all ages are welcome.

PINE POINT HISTORY:

The story goes that a bunch of tenants of the Pine Grove Condos (now Lake Park Plaza - 3910 N Pine Grove) saw each other carrying ski equipment on started sharing ski stories. They decided to get together to start the club. Thank Steve, Ira, Patrick, Richard and Diane for being the first Board of Directors. The Articles of Incorporation were filed with the state on August 10, 1971. The stated purpose of the club:

To promote and encourage the sport of skiing by affording the most economical skiing opportunities consistent with reasonable standards of quality, comfort and safety and to promote sportsmanship and good friendship through organized group skiing, planned ski trips, safety education, ski equipment evaluation, ski instruction and competition.

What was going on in the ski world and Chicago in 1971?
Ski areas founded: Devil's Head, Snowbird, and 49 Degrees North (that are still around)
Annemarie Proll (Austria) won the World Cup overall title.
The U.S finished 4th in team standings.
Picabo Street was born.
Chicago got 47 inches of snow (1971-21)
The Reader was founded!

Did you know that Pine Point is older than some major ski areas that we like to visit? The following areas didn't exist when the club started:
Copper Mtn CO, Kirkwood CA, Telluride CO, Big Sky MT, Silverton Mtn CO, Mt Bohemia MI, Powder Mountain UT
