Come early, bring a dish to share, listen to the band, and watch the

What:Join us for the 25th edition of Pine Point’s favorite and longest running summer trip. We’ll be camping at our usual hilltop site at Benson’s Camping Resort on Long Lake near Dundee, Wisconsin, about 3 hours north of Chicago. We will have maps and trip sheets for 35-, 55-, and 75-mile routes for the main biking and/or blading events on Saturday, and you can do it all again on Sunday if you have any energy left over! Some folks just hang out at the campsite, go for a hike on marked trails at Kettle Moraine State Forest, or bike (or even drive) the few miles to the other side of Long Lake, where there is a very nice beach. If you are not a camper, there are B&B’s in the area (but you can’t build a campfire in your room!). If you stay at a B&B, please let the trip leader (Paula Berry) know so she can include you in the trip count.
Most people show up at the campground before dark Friday evening, because it’s just easier to put up a tent when you can see what you’re doing. The campsite is relatively isolated from civilization, but the bathrooms and hot showers are just a short walk down the hill. If the bike ride isn’t enough for you, the campground has a volleyball court, horseshoe pit, and a small beach on Long Lake. Most of us just relax on the wooded hilltop around the fire pit, enjoying conversation and favorite beverages.
The cost ($35, +$5 for non-members) includes camping fees, firewood, route maps, and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. Lunches are on your own with a place to be determined since our new favorite place from a couple of years ago burned. At the end of the ride, many of us also enjoy a well-earned ice cream cone at the Hamburger Haus in Dundee, to get up the energy to ride back up the hill to camp. There is also an Annual Corn Roast hosted by a local snowmobile club held in town. Dinner on Saturday evening (not included in the trip cost) is at the Fin & Feather Supper Club, by far the best restaurant in the North Kettle Moraine area and a Pine Point tradition. The menu includes a wide variety of delicious fish, fowl, beef, and pork specialties. And the desserts are appropriately decadent for a post-ride reward!
When: Friday-Sunday, August 13 – August 15.
Where: Benson’s Camping Resort on Long Lake near Dundee, Wisconsin.
How: e-mail Paula at pkberry@sbcglobal.net or phone her at 312-421-6860. To sign up, send a trip application form (Pine Point requires this) and your check for $35 (+$5 if applicable) to Paula Berry 1070 W. Fry St., Chicago IL, 60642. Car and tent pooling are available; contact Paula if you need help. We’re looking forward to seeing you for what is always a memorable trip!
How Much: 35 (+$5 if applicable) See instruction above.
Rememeber
the 80's? We could live without "Joani Loves Chachi" and "The
A-Team", shoulder pads and frizzed hair but the music sure was
great! Other than the obvious Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson,
Prince and Madonna; we had INXS, Duran Duran, The bangles, A-Ha,
Wham and Soft Cell. It was pretty fun music. Come sing
along or just come along for the fun.
Band starts at 8PM. They are really worth
seeing & hearing!
How to find us: We will meet at the Art Institute of Chicago (111 South Michigan Avenue) on the steps of the main entrance next to the south most Lion bronze statue.
